Siena is also famous for its traditional horse race the Palio, held twice a year (July 2nd and August 16th) in which 10 neighborhoods (out of a total of 17) compete against each other in a treacherous and dramatic 3 lap race around the Piazza del Campo in front of a crowd of 30.000 spectators.

San Gimignano
San Gimignano is one of the best preserved examples of 12-13th Century urban architecture. Often described as a "Medieval version of Manhattan", San Gimignano was a city in which the most powerful families owned the tallest towers overlooking the Tuscan landscape. San Gimignano is mentioned as one of the towns scattered along the Via Francigena, a route connecting France to Rome, traveled during the Middle Ages by Christian monks during their pilgrimage to Rome.
The Siena & San Gimignano Tour calls for about 3hrs of total travel time. There is also the option of arranging a stop at a winery (reservations are usually required so please let us know in advance).
